Oxford Gaia House Retreats
Practice is not a matter of willpower, but of wisdom, of noting wisdom. With this practice, you can learn where your weaknesses are, where you tend to get lost. You witness the kind of character traits you’ve developed in your life so far, not to be critical of them but just to know how to work with them and not be enslaved by them. This means a careful, wise reflection on the way things are.
From Mindfulness: the Path to the Deathless, Ajahn Sumedho
Oxford Gaia House Retreats offer a programme of day retreats led by teachers associated with Gaia House. The retreats offer an opportunity to explore both sitting and walking meditation practices in a supportive environment. The teachers normally provide guidance through meditation instruction, a dharma talk and a question and answer session.
Gaia House
Gaia House was founded in 1984 to provide an environment for the teaching and practice of ethics, meditation and wisdom. The retreat centre provides a sanctuary of calm stillness welcoming all people who wish to explore the heart of understanding and freedom. A variety of group retreats is available as well as the possibility of spending time in solitary retreat. Nearly all retreats are held in silence.
